We Are Skilled Trades Workers
Consider
this! As employees in the pipe trades, we are skilled trades
workers. A skilled trades worker is someone employed in a profession that
requires special knowledge and abilities, expertise, ability to problem solve,
and technical know-how. In being a skilled trade worker we have a higher degree
of value in the marketplace, that is we aren’t as easily replaced and this
gives us more economic power.
There are a good number of publications and agencies that study labor supply issues. All of these publications are reporting that currently there is a shortage of truly qualified skilled trades workers and it will get much worse in the future. Many of this country’s more experienced and skilled workers are retiring or are leaving the building trades altogether. To further complicate things, younger people have been drawn away from traditional blue collar jobs such as construction. If you don’t believe this, think of how hard it is to find really good hands. Those of us that have a high degree of ability are in a position of economic power, the ability to negotiate top dollar from your employer. Don’t sell yourself short, get all you’re worth. For those whose skills are not quite as high, get yourselves trained to improve your skills and knowledge. The United Association has far and away the best training in all of the pipe trades if not the entire building trades. You can help yourself to a better future, better money and more dignity. Come in and talk to us about the opportunities available to you.
