St. PATRICKS DAY LABOR RALLY

Mar 17, 2010

Location WESTLAKE CENTER
Time 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Description PRESENTED BY THE: SEATTLE KING COUNTY BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADES COUNCIL WE NEED JOBS NOW! The Construction Industry Unions have an unprecedented 35% unemployment rate. That is not a recession that is a depression. Our members are losing healthcare and are running out of unemployment Insurance extensions. Families are facing home foreclosures at an alarming rate. Our workers compensation is under attack. Local business’s are outsourcing or closing their doors and moving to “Right to Work States” or moving out of the country. Boeing, the Port of Seattle, Microsoft and PACCAR have all commented about the transportation challenges we face to get goods to the markets. The Marine Industry continues the fight to maintain Industrial Land and Freight Mobility. I applaud the Seattle City Council for their efforts to support Industry and jobs. But other local elected leaders continue to delay vital Transportation Projects. I for one am sick of excuses, sick of the NIMBY campaigns by the wealthy neighborhoods. What are we going to do about it? Continue to complain? Continue to be Politically correct and schedule meetings? Continue to let OUR elected leaders take us for granted and minimize our issues? NO! We are going to hold a “Jobs Now Rally” and fill Westlake Park downtown and make our voices heard. We will show this town what we can do as ORGANIZED LABOR. Now is the time to show our Solidarity.
